National News: Americans support transitioning from Fossil Fuels to Clean Energy by 2050
A Yale study found that 66% of Americans support transitioning from fossil fuels to clean energy by 2050, with 63% prioritizing clean energy development for the president and Congress. However, there is a rural-urban divide, with urban areas showing more support for clean energy and concern about global warming. In the Mountain West, states like Wyoming and Utah have lower concern levels compared to the national average. The study highlights the need for discussions on environmental impacts and local actions to address global warming.

State News: Challenge on Ohio Power Siting Board’s Denial of a Permit for 175MW Solar Farm
Vesper Energy is challenging the Ohio Power Siting Board's denial of a permit for its 175MW solar farm in Greene County, arguing that the board improperly gave local governments veto power over the project. The developer claims the board failed to evaluate the merits of local opposition and instead used its mere existence to deny the permit. The case, now before the Ohio Supreme Court, could have significant implications for the state's ability to expand its clean energy infrastructure. The court's decision will address whether the board's actions were based on evidence or influenced by local politics. A ruling against Vesper Energy could set a precedent making it more difficult for future renewable energy projects to overcome local resistance.

Renewable Energy From Space
A new analysis using satellite imagery reveals significant growth in solar and wind energy installations from 2017 to 2025. The Global Renewables Watch, a collaboration between The Nature Conservancy, Planet, and Microsoft’s AI for Good Lab, maps these changes to help planners optimize new clean-energy projects. China leads in installed capacity, with over 120,000wind turbines and 1.5 million acres of solar farms, while the U.S. saw solar, and wind surpass coal for the first time last year. The European Union generated nearly a third of its electricity from solar and wind in 2024.Despite these advancements, the world still relies heavily on fossil fuels, and more renewable projects are needed to meet climate goals.

Livingston County, Michigan residents have been protesting a proposed solar farm

Carson Power plans to build a 4.6MW community-scale solar energy project on 22 acres in Elmira, New York, but has temporarily removed the lithium-ion battery storage component due to safety and environmental concerns from residents. The company aims to gain town approval by complying with local zoning provisions and educating the community on the benefits of solar and storage projects. Despite some opposition, there is growing support for the project, which promises to provide clean energy and economic benefits to the area. The Town of Elmira Planning Board will discuss the modified proposal on April 7.

The planned 810-acre Rain Lily solar farm in Granbury, Texas, which also includes a lithium battery storage system, has raised safety and environmental concerns among Hood County residents. Residents worry about potential fire hazards and the impact of hazardous materials from damaged solar panels. EE North America, the company behind the project, assures residents that modern safety mechanisms will be in place and promises economic benefits, including jobs and increased tax revenue. The project is expected to generate 190 megawatts of solar power by 2027. Local officials are considering bills to regulate energy storage and generation more strictly.
